MikroTik

MikroTik Hotspot Billing with Mobile Money

Most hotspots in Tanzania run on MikroTik routers. The router is good at controlling access, but it does not collect mobile-money payments by itself. Farman Connect connects your MikroTik HotSpot to a payment portal so customers pay by phone and get online automatically.

How it works

Your MikroTik router keeps doing the HotSpot work on site. Farman Connect provides the captive portal, payment and RADIUS side: the customer chooses a bundle, pays with M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money or HaloPesa, and the router lets that device online for the time paid.

Provisioning is automatic once you add your router (hardware or CHR) in the vendor portal. MikroTik support is currently in beta, and the Farman Connect team helps with setup.

Why not just Mikhmon or User Manager?

Mikhmon and User Manager are excellent for printing vouchers, but somebody still has to sell those vouchers. With mobile-money billing, customers buy at any hour without an attendant, and every sale shows up on your dashboard.

You can keep voucher cards for cash customers and add online payments on top — both work together.

MikroTik setup and installation

Farman Connect also configures MikroTik routers for hotspot, firewall, VPN, bandwidth limits and load balancing. If you are starting fresh, we can supply and install routers and access points in Zanzibar and guide mainland operators remotely.

Frequently asked questions

Can MikroTik accept M-Pesa payments for WiFi?

Not on its own. Connecting MikroTik HotSpot to Farman Connect adds a captive portal where customers pay with M-Pesa, Mixx, Airtel Money or HaloPesa, and access opens automatically.

Do I need a public IP for my MikroTik?

Farman Connect guides you through the connection method during onboarding. Contact the team with your router model and internet connection type for advice.
